Understanding and Managing Investment Risks

The world of investing is complex and efficient. While we pursue long-term opportunities in U.S. public markets, we place equal emphasis on understanding risks and implementing strict controls.

Market Valuation Discipline

We manage exposure with a valuation lens. When broad market indicators suggest overheating, we hold more cash and scale down risk; when valuations reset, we lean into high-quality businesses. This counter-cyclical posture isn’t about timing the next move; it’s about improving the average price we pay and keeping flexibility when it matters most. Liquidity is a risk control and an option—we value it accordingly.

Pyramid Portfolio Structure

Our portfolio is constructed as a three-tiered pyramid: concentrated, high-conviction holdings at the top; diversified sector and market exposure in the middle; and liquidity reserves in cash and fixed income at the base. Position sizing ties to quality, valuation, and downside risk, with diversification by underlying economic drivers. The goal is resilience: room to act in drawdowns without forced selling.

Mindset & Process Over Prediction

Volatility is normal. Our edge is temperament and process: think in years, not quarters; let unit economics and returns on incremental capital guide decisions; and stay evidence-driven through cycles. We add to strength, trim exuberance, and recycle into better risk-adjusted opportunities—discipline compounds over time.
